AGC
AGC Glass Europe, a European leader in flat glass
Based in Brussels, AGC Glass Europe produces, processes and distributes flat glass for the construction industry (external glazing and indoor decorative glass), the automotive industry, the solar industry, and specialist industries. It is the European branch of AGC Glass, the world’s largest producer of flat glass.

Respect for the Environment: a core value driving AGC Glass Europe
One of our priorities is to maximise the energy efficiency of our glass production facilities. For our float glass furnaces, we take a global approach based on research and the exchange of best practices within the AGC Group. AGC Glass Europe was the first glassmaker in Europe to introduce a combustion method that yields significant energy savings.
AGC Glass Europe is a leader in coated glasses. This type of glass directly helps to reduce energy consumption: superinsulating coatings save energy used for heating, while solar control coatings save energy used for air conditioning.
AGC Glass Europe’s environmental policy has two main objectives:
• develop new products that deliver improved environmental performance throughout their entire lifetime, including the recycling stage;
• implement production processes that help to preserve the environment by using the cleanest technologies currently available.
AGC is the first and only glass company in Europe to obtain Cradle to Cradle certification for flat glass, achieving the silver level for its float glass and soft-coated glass products.
To retain its Silver certification, AGC is obliged to continuously improve products and production processes, and annual evaluations are carried out to this end.
This challenge fits perfectly with AGC’s way of working. For years now, AGC has been working on developing environmentally-conscious solutions, and we continue to make supreme efforts to ensure that our purchasing and recycling processes are environmentally sustainable.
During their service life our products have no adverse effect on the environment. They are made of raw materials that are widely available and fully recyclable. We incorporate between 25% and 31% recycled glass into our raw materials as standard. We process by-products left over after recycling – sometimes directly, sometimes after treatment, e.g. the removal of metals. From 2012 onwards, the level of residual waste in all our European companies will be less than 1%. Since 2006, water consumption has dropped 15%, while energy consumption has fallen 10%. AGC has a Green Purchasing procedure and is working on many green energy projects, e.g. projects to generate green energy and utilise solar energy in production processes.
